Swedish, Norwegian and Danish athletes deliver impressive results at the TIMBERSPORTS® Nordic Championship 2024

The intense season of TIMBERSPORTS® extreme sports competitions culminated with the Nordic Championship 2024, which took place on 19 and 20 July in the Swedish town of Malung. It was a weekend brimming with impressive performances and new records as the elite Pro, Rookie and Women’s athletes from the Nordic countries competed for the title of Nordic Champion in their respective divisions. Swedish athlete Ferry Svan scooped the Pro division title, which takes him through to the World Championship 2024.

After a gripping contest against his fellow countrymen Emil Hansson and Calle Svadling, Swedish athlete Ferry Svan secured victory in the Pro division. Hansson, the 2022 and 2023 Nordic Champion, ended in third place after a disqualification in Hot Saw, the final discipline. Vebjørn Sønsteby retained the title of Norwegian Champion and finished fourth in the Pro division, just one point short of the podium. Sønsteby also set a new Norwegian record and personal best in the final discipline, Hot Saw, with a time of 6.50 seconds. Svan’s win at the weekend was the first time he had clinched the Nordic Championship title since his victory in 2021 and it secured his place at the World Championship in Toulouse in November.

“It feels amazing to have finally won. After missing out on a win these last two years, it feels really good to claim the Championship title. The outcome of all the competitions isn’t decided until the athletes have competed in the final discipline, Hot Saw. It’s a tough contest and as you only get one go at it you cannot afford to make a mistake,” says Ferry Svan.

“Now it’s time to start preparing for the competitions ahead and the World Championship in particular. I’m really happy to be representing Sweden there this autumn and will be concentrating hard on my training between now and then.”

Swedish athlete Tove Njåstad once again defended her title in the Women’s division after a keen battle with Denmark’s Felixia Banck. Banck finished in second place and Åsa Nordberg from Sweden came third.

“I’m extremely satisfied with my effort and performance in the disciplines, especially in Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. It feels great that my curve is moving in the right direction and that I’ve won the title this year too,” says Tove Njåstad.

Danish success in the Rookie division
Bo Andersen from Denmark won his first gold medal in the Rookie division and dominated the competition in three of the four disciplines. Sweden’s Johan Staf and Adam Bjöns came second and third respectively. Simen Jesnes Buraas delivered an impressive performance in the Rookie division, setting a new Norwegian record in the Single Buck and finishing the competition in fifth place overall.

“It feels amazing and very special to win gold. It almost feels like a historical feat, as this is Denmark’s first gold medal in ten years. Now I’ll get back to training hard and staying focused on the competitions ahead. I’ve got my sights set on the World Championship,” says Andersen.
