Three New Champions Crowned in Thrilling Nordic TIMBERSPORTS® Showdown
The 2025 Nordic Championships in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® took place on June 7 at Elmia Wood in Jönköping, Sweden, gathering top athletes from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – as well as guest competitors from the USA and Canada. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, three new Nordic champions were crowned in the Pro, Rookie and Women’s competitions after a full day of thrilling axe and saw action.
Sweden’s Emil Hansson took gold in the Pro Division after a close contest with Norway’s Vebjørn Sønsteby and Sweden’s Ferry Svan. Hansson returned to the top of the podium after Svan claimed the title last year. With this victory, Emil Hansson also secures his spot to represent Sweden at the World Championships in Milan this October.
“That felt really good! Things were a bit shaky at the start, but I managed to turn it around, and the second half of the competition went smoothly. I’m proud and happy to be standing on the individual stage at the World Championships in Milan“, says Hansson.
Sønsteby, who claimed silver, reached the podium for the first time in a Nordic Championship and declared himself "very happy and proud" of the result.
”It feels really good. I said earlier today that I would perform better than I ever have, and this is the first time I’ve made it onto the podium at a Nordic Championship. I’m very happy!“, says Sønsteby.
Tight finishes also in the Rookie and Women’s competitions
In the Rookie competition, Denmark’s Bo Andersen successfully defended his title and was once again crowned Nordic Champion. After a slow start in the Stock Saw, Andersen found his rhythm and delivered top times in the remaining disciplines – including a personal best in the Standing Block Chop and fastest time in the Single Buck.
The Women’s competition saw fierce battles from both Nordic and North American athletes. USA’s Kelly Kerrigan won the overall competition, but with a strong third-place finish, Sweden’s Tove Njåstad was crowned Nordic Champion for the second year in a row.
